Description
Pont-Neuf in Paris (northern part). The pont Neuf is constituted in reality by two segments (one with five arches and the other with seven arches) united by an artificial island created utilising two small pre-existing islands, l'Ile aux Juifs e l'Ile du Patriarche. Construction works begun on May 31th 1578, when king Henri III posing the first stone, and lasted for 29 years, the bridge having being completed under King Henri IV only in 1607. Henri IV gave it the name "New Bridge", that it still maintains even though it is the oldest bridge in Paris. It was designed by five architects among whom Du Cerceau and Des Isles.
