Description
Palazzo delle Assicurazioni Generali in Rome, built between 1902 and 1906, during the general reengineering of the area, with various contributions by Alberto Manassei, Guido Cirilli and Giuseppe Sacconi. The building copies the general appearance of the Palazzo di Venezia (Palazzo Venezia) which is on the opposite side of the square, but with a Venetian 15th century look. The white figure of the Lion of St Mark on the faade is a 16th century work coming from Padua (the Lion of Saint Mark is also the symbol of the Assicurazioni Generali, and the symbol of Venice). Where is now the southern side of this building a house existed where Michelangelo dwelled and died.
