Description
Rome, Italy. Piazza di San Giovanni in Laterano. South face of the Obelisco Lateranense. The Obelisk is the most ancient and the tallest in Rome (31 m., with basement 47 m). Raised by pharaos Tutmes III and Tutmes IV in XV century b.C. in front of the temple of Ammon in Thebes, it was brought in Rome by Constantius II in 357 and put in the Circus Maximus. Tumbled, was found in 1587 and moved in the present place by Domenico Fontana.
