Description
Fontana di Trevi in Rome. Works for the fountain begun in 1732 and ended only in 1762. The main subject is the statue of Ocean, on a shell-shaped coach pulled by two sea horses, one "placido" and the other "agitato", as a reference to the calm or rough state of the sea. The sea horses are in turn driven by tritons (sea kings). The main architect of the fountain is Nicola Salvi. The main group with Ocean, coach, horses and tritons is by Pietro Bracci (1759 - 1762). The two allegoric figures on the niches are L'Abbondanza (left) and La Salubrit (right) both by Filippo Della Valle
